New Idea

    Brook,
During my 14 hours of driving over the Memorial Day Weekend®, I came up with a new idea for you:

I want you to take pictures of every roadside 'Historical Marker' that you can.

Some parts of the U.S. seem to have them every 2 miles. While most are fairly generic. I tend to think that you (because you're Brook) could find a few that are either odd or just interesting. I know that I (and probably most Americans) don't really pay attention to them the majority of time.

At the very least, it could provide a consistent stream of content for your site while you're traveling in the U.S. While you're overseas, running across similar items would potentially be both entertaining & enlightening.

Anybody else have other ideas for Brook?

  2. Detox, as you know I'll be driving about 1,500 miles in the next week before starting my real journey. I'll keep an eye out for historical mile markers along the way and get some pictures, maybe plant a geocache decal if I see something interesting.

It's funny how many things like historical mile markers we pass every day yet never think about in our hurried lives. I have no need to hurry anymore (for now anyways) so I'll give it some thought!

  3. Detox, I made my drive back home and looked for historical mile markers along the way. I passed by a few historical sites, like Bob Dole's and Steven Hawley's (astronaut) hometowns.

Kansas also had a strange roadside show, calling itself a museum, with deformed farm animals. When I stopped to refuel, the gas station attendants told me the museum had been labeled one of ten greatest ripoffs in America, so I shouldn't waste my time.

There was a place on the KS/CO border that claimed you could see 6 states from a little tower.

Wyoming undoubtedly has the highest billboards per capita of any state. I've never seen so many billboards and so few people as I did driving through Wyoming. They have lots of antelope, too.
