Hey Brook

I was just thinking, since I posted a comment to your "Ignorance is Bliss" maybe ANYONE else out there who wants to travel to Australia should check out the top ten things to do!

The coast is practically built for backpackers with so many hostels and tours available, for someone who packs lightly you’ll definitely be able to get around!

If/When you do come to Australia here are the top 10 things you MUST see/do:

10. Eat a meat pie/kangaroo steak
9. Go to Coff’s harbour take the bush tour
8. Go to Hunter Valley take a wine 101
7. Go to Yamba and cliff dive/surf
6. Go hiking in the GC hinterlands
5. Hit up the GC and party like your in Miami
4. Sail the Whitsundays in Airlie Beach
3. Fraser Island, Moreton Island, Magnetic Island
2. Skydive over the reef, or get hired on a fishing boat or diving boat its a truly unique experience
1. Dive the Great Barrier REEF!

A lot of this stuff Jill and I did on our show http://www.jillandstaceydotheroo.com so anyone can watch it before you try it kinda deal!!

Hope we do meet soon!

Cheers!

Well, the Digg icons thing is done. Unfortunately, with an update to Wordpress, one of the plugins doesn't work so well...what that means is the little tabs on the side with recent/favorite/popular posts doesn't function for the forseeable future.

Now I feel lazy! I am near internet, and left Mongolia almost a week ago. I have so many posts to work on...and I still have to write about my favorite adventure, the night with polygamists!

I ate a ton of beef soup in Mongolia, but not many vegetables. Mongolians are all about meat and milk. I fit right in. Fortunately I didn't run into many trapezoids.

p.s. Here's some trivia: A month ago, I mixed green tea with soy sauce (to dip sushi pieces in) thinking that the tea was a powder form of wasabi. The sushi restaurant lady thought it a big enough breach of decorum that she gave me a lesson in making tea. Too bad she didn't tell me until AFTER I finished my meal! I was wondering why the "wasabi" didn't have much of a kick...

Hey Brook, you don't have to add the Digg icons. You can use the "Addthis" Wordpress plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/addthis/). Just get the file, upload it to the server, configure in your WP dashboard, and it will automatically add a bookmarking widget to every post. It let's people forward a post or notify whichever sites you want to let them without any changes to your site or the need to sign up for each service.

Natalie, I'll definitely visit Thailand. Everyone tells me it's so beautiful and exciting and such a bargain. I'm not sure how the timeline is going to work out since I have to be in Vietnam during Mid Aug-Mid Sep(that's when my visa is). The Thai visa I can get anytime.

Kevin, I'll keep you updated on when I get there. I'd love to have an inside look at things. Maybe they can teach me how to cook some Thai dishes, and I'll show them how to make French Toast!

flencio, I checked out Cao Son...it's way out there! I'm thinking of doing a motorbike tour of Northern Vietnam, and this sounds like a great place to visit. Thanks for the suggestion!

Detox, I made my drive back home and looked for historical mile markers along the way. I passed by a few historical sites, like Bob Dole's and Steven Hawley's (astronaut) hometowns.

Kansas also had a strange roadside show, calling itself a museum, with deformed farm animals. When I stopped to refuel, the gas station attendants told me the museum had been labeled one of ten greatest ripoffs in America, so I shouldn't waste my time.

There was a place on the KS/CO border that claimed you could see 6 states from a little tower.

Wyoming undoubtedly has the highest billboards per capita of any state. I've never seen so many billboards and so few people as I did driving through Wyoming. They have lots of antelope, too.

What would you like to see changed about the website?

Let me first say I really like the design and have gotten very, very good feedback. It is built to be easy on the eyes and not too busy. I never want one of those blogs with links all over the place and advertising banners on every edge. That said, I have some ideas that I think can add value to the website and increase readership (yes, this is a word, I just checked) without cluttering it too much.

-Allowing pictures, video and html coding in blog and forum comments.
-Links for each blog post to Digg and other websites to draw attention to a particular entry. I'm still unsure if the payoff here is actually worth putting those little icons after each post.

That's really it for now. Keep me updated on what you think of the website design and improvement ideas!

Poison, thanks for the pictures! I swear I have fewer pictures of myself than others do. Those pictures remind me more of how out of shape I've become than about bleeding all over beach! Good times man. I'll never forget that day and how you and Big Mac walked away unscathed somehow.

I've been wondering about posting pictures and video here as well, but figured I might just be clueless. I have an email in to Jenny to figure it out. That capability might require significant coding in which case I'll save it for a later website edit.

Not really a soul search, but this is a topic for future posts and gets to the heart of what this whole website is about. I believe it's healthy to have some small "retirements"/sabbaticals/soul searches. Between long stretches of "real life," they breakup the monotony, revitalize, and help rediscover what truly drives us. "Career" should have been a 4-letter word.

P.S. I'm limiting my P.Hut costs until they reply to my letter.

Detox, as you know I'll be driving about 1,500 miles in the next week before starting my real journey. I'll keep an eye out for historical mile markers along the way and get some pictures, maybe plant a geocache decal if I see something interesting.

It's funny how many things like historical mile markers we pass every day yet never think about in our hurried lives. I have no need to hurry anymore (for now anyways) so I'll give it some thought!

Your forum doesn't allow pictures to be posted in the BBcode...only linked. Weaksauce. (Or maybe I just can't figure it out.)
